Why Us?
We're for all Bodies
Freedomfield celebrates diversity & individuality. Our shirts are designed for gender and size inclusivity.
We emphasise universal gender inclusive design, offering unisex styles featuring an interchangeable mix of femme/masc colourways, patterns & designs.
Plus sized bodies are more than welcome to take up space here! As long as we’re in charge, we promise to continue offering extended sizing up to 4XL as a staple, not just a token gesture. We also offer made-to-order *custom fits.
Whatever your identity, Freedomfield fits your style.
We're for the Planet
Freedomfield stands as an alternative to fast fashion. By only repurposing materials that already exist, we minimise our contribution to the planet’s problems. Our fabric and buttons are sourced from charity shops and second hand sellers.
We live and work by slow fashion values, offering sustainable upcycled garmets that are designed to last for many years to come. This means encouraging a 'buy less' lifestyle, reusing existing materials (there's more than enough out there), supporting fair pay for labour and taking the time to craft robust clothing that's also cute as heck!
Offcuts are retained for MINI shirts and other creative uses (stay tuned). We’re pondering on a circular solution for small fabric pieces & scraps, for now they are stored in the studio.
We're for Comfort
Our shirts are so bloody comfy. Featuring details like shallow sleeve caps (for free arm movement), generous sleeve width & length (for extra freedom & comfort) and straight & wide side seams (for relaxed & roomy fit).
Shirts are often cut from vintage bedsheets or doona covers – which means they are usually soft, breathable and durable. Handcrafted details are on point, and extra care is taken during construction to prioritise precision and durability of wear.
Relaxed and generous sizing make for easy styling. Depending on your preferred fit, both standard fit and oversized are a vibe. Check product details to choose your adventure!
Freedomfield sizing ranges from XS to 4XL. Please check our size charts for approximate measurements and helpful sizing instructions.
We're One-of-a-Kind
Freedomfield takes an unfinished story & crafts it to become a unique part of yours.
When people find us, the most common comment we hear is how hard it is to find shirts like ours. There’s usually a sigh of relief, followed by some excited banter, and then an uncontrollable urge to try on – and then they lived happily ever after.
Upcycling textiles means we can only create one or a few shirts from the same fabric piece. In the case of leftovers from the first cut, we put a unique spin on each counterpart, so they are truly one-of-one.
What is Slow Fashion Anyway?
Technically, slow fashion isn’t a new idea. In fact, it was always how we made clothes – until something went horribly wrong with the way fashion was made, marketed and sold.
Not that long ago, clothing was made from good quality, natural and durable materials. Garments were made slowly by one or a few skilled people paid a living wage.
Because it was high quality and made to last, clothing was an investment. People respected their clothing, wore it and rewore it for years, reinvented it, mended it and passed it on.
Now, due to fast moving trends, high availability and dirt-cheap prices, it has become normal for us to fall into a rapid and wasteful cycle of BUY - DISCARD - REPLACE. We actually get a dopamine rush from buying cheap clothing hauls that are commonly only worn once. This habit is addictive (quietly costing us a fortune) and it's choking our planet.
Most of this clothing is made of cheap & flimsy materials by people making next to nothing. What’s worse, so much of it is tossed to landfill or incinerated if it doesn’t sell before the next 5-minute trend comes around.
Fast fashion brands know what they are doing. For the sake of extremely high profits, they use clever marketing tactics and greenwashing to drive more sales. Over a relatively short time, these practices have degraded quality standards and our perception of what clothing is worth. We don't need this much clothing and we didn't ask for it.
Slow fashion businesses push back against this wasteful and harmful system and offer high quality, sustainable clothing made by people who are paid fairly. They ask, why can't we go back to the way it was always done? It's a movement towards sustainable fashion, not just a premium alternative.
Freedomfield only repurposes and upcycles fabrics & buttons that may otherwise be destined for landfill.
Circular fashion promotes the mindset shift by encouraging people to buy less, save for good quality pieces, buy ethical & slow, buy secondhand, rewear, repair, make, pass on, swap, share sewing skills and upcycle.
It’s actually a pretty cool rebellion and you’re free to join us!
