The Overshirt is our versatile seasonal long sleeve, handmade in Melbourne from carefully sourced upcycled, reclaimed and remnant fabrics. Handmade to last and thoughtfully crafted for everyday wear, every Freedomfield Overshirt is a unique piece that combines timeless design with sustainable fashion.

Details

Featuring the same relaxed silhouette as our Vintage Cut collection with a little extra room. The Overshirt includes a classic camp collar, top button loop closure, horizontal buttonholes and single-button cuffs for a timeless, vintage-inspired finish.

Crafted from light to mid-weight fabrics, it's designed to be worn buttoned up as a long sleeve shirt or layered over a T-shirt, fine knit or lightweight jumper for effortless year-round style.

With a relaxed fit, the Overshirt can be worn true to size for a comfortable everyday look, or sized up for a more oversized fit. This gender-inclusive design is available in sizes XS–4XL.

Where do you find your fabrics?

The answer to this question is so basic its almost boring! I rummage through second hand and charity shops mostly. Sometimes I’m lucky enough to find a vintage piece at a reseller or op shop, or material is given to me by a family member or friend. A lot of the fabric I use started its life as bed linens.

Are your shirts unisex?

Yes! All my shirts are designed to look good on all bodies. My shirts are straight cut, relaxed fit and ample.

Are your shirts plus size friendly?

Yes indeedy! Plus sized cuties are so welcome here.

Many fashion labels are unable to offer adequate extended sizing due to logistical, design and financial constraints - but as a slow handmade brand, I created a way to incorporate extended sizing into my core range.

The plus sized community holds a special place in my heart, which is why I will always offer adequate extended sizing. My shirts go up to a generous 4XL, plus I offer made-to-order custom fits.

When will I get my order?

Your order will generally be shipped within 3 business days.

Custom orders take longer due to additional consultation & production times.

Do you sell at markets?

I do! I live and work in Melbourne and usually do about two local markets a year (sometimes more). You might find me at A Plus Market, CERES Market Brunswick or HEIDE Market + more. Coming to see me at a market is a great way to try before you buy – and I’d love to meet you. I must warn you though, if you try on a shirt, it’s likely to come home with you.

What shirt pattern do you use?

All of my shirts are original Freedomfield designs. I draft them old school, on the floor of my studio using rulers and a roll of butcher’s paper. I take a lot of care creating a design until I feel it’s perfect. Once I get it right, I grade all the sizes from the original design (XS-4XL). At this stage, I do not sell my patterns.

How does custom work?

Custom is subject to availability and full payment is required to secure an order.

Are your shirts upcycled?

Yep! I only use fabrics that have already seen some sh*t. This includes salvaged linens, vintage pieces, donated remnants and second-hand or clearance yardage.

All buttons are also reclaimed from all around the place. They are either subtly matched or intentional accents carefully coordinated with the main shirt fabric.

Full disclosure, I use brand-new notions including woven iron on interfacing & polyester sewing thread.

What are your labels made from?

Branded Freedomfield labels are made from eco-friendly cotton. My supplier states Oeko-TEX certification on their website.

Taffeta size tags & satin care labels are made from polyester.

Freedomfield acknowledges that we live and work on the stolen lands of First Nations people of Australia.
